Trevor Visits His Dad In Switzerland | Trevor Noah: I Wish You Would
Editor’s Note: After what felt like an endless winter, spring has finally sprung, and we’re here for all it entails. And while the refreshing breezes and start of baseball season have us itching to get outside and shake off the rust of hibernation, the comedy juggernauts posting up around town are making the decision to make our way inside clubs and theaters almost too easy. With homegrown talent, national headliners, and open mics galore highlighting the calendar, the plethora of powerful comedy throughout The Commonwealth continues to bring the rain, kinda like those “April showers” we’ve always heard about. As the days finally become warmer and we start to thaw from the bitter cold, we always want to make sure you know about cool stuff going on in the world of comedy. Enter Mic’d Up, our ongoing weekly series that details the best live comedy shows to consider as you head out and about. Below find our rundown for this week, through Sunday (April 9).
Trevor Noah at The Wilbur
No longer behind the Daily Show desk, Noah is taking his time to deliver some non-FCC-regulated thoughts as he’s sticking around the area for a solid week. That’s a full week of social commentary, cultural perspective and Noah’s top-tier ability to throw down on some hard and perhaps uncomfortable truths with a dangerously sharp tongue and a strategic approach that may just put you in a different frame of thought without you even knowing it.
TREVOR NOAH :: Wednesday, April 5 to Wednesday, April 12 at The Wilbur Theatre, 246 Tremont St. in Boston, MA :: 6:30 p.m., $57 to $125 :: Advance Tickets
Shane Mauss at City Winery
While not the only comic on this week’s radar that’s experimenting with hallucinogens, Mauss brings a few different worlds together as he meshes the art of comedy with the science of psychedelics for a unique experience that combines curiosity and hilarity that will certainly result a great trip, perhaps in a few different ways if that’s how you get down.
SHANE MAUSS :: Friday, April 7 at City Winery, 80 Beverly St. in Boston, MA :: 5:30 and 9 p.m., $25 to $35 :: Advance Tickets
Myq Kaplan at Off Cabot
If you’re looking for your weekend dose of good vibes and comedy-powered love, the Brandeis alum has you covered. With a somewhat rare but always anticipated return to the area, Kaplan continues to deliver a deeply thoughtful and well-articulated cavalcade of stand-up hilarity, and with a room as intimate as Off Cabot, you’re going to get a front row seat to all the fine little details that make Kaplan’s dashingly sharp approach one of the best in the game.
MYQ KAPLAN :: Friday, April 7 and Saturday, April 8 at Off Cabot, 9 Wallis St. in Beverly, MA :: 7 p.m., $30 :: Advance tickets
Alex Giampapa at The Secret Loft
With a little bit of mystery and most likely a whole lot of smoke, “Jim Dad” is bringing a new meaning to his high levels of comedy potency. The only thing that could make this night of skepticism, social commentary and unfolding the absurdities of everyday life is if the man on stage was higher than the Red Sox combined ERA, so that’s what he’s going to do. He’s also recording it for a special, so buckle up.
