Jeremy Clarkson admits he is so mean he has worn the same pair of shoes every day for the last six years. The former Top Gear host claims to be so frugal that he likes old shoes, old cars and even sticks the handles back onto old broken mugs. And images from across the years seem to support that he does indeed tend to wear tatty, suede loafers rather a lot. While he is often filmed in wellies down on Clarkson’s Farm in the Cotswolds, off duty the 62-year-old seems to prefer slip-ons.

He also appears to have the same style in different colours. When a rather unshaven and dishevelled Clarkson was recently pictured entering the Manchester studios to film a Who Wants To Be A Millionaire after yet another controversy, a pair of scruffy, dark suede loafers were peeking out below his usual dad jeans.

They did indeed look as if he had worn them every day for the last six years. And he must like the style because in his promotional pictures for Clarkson's Farm he wears the same style shoe in brown leather.

And as far back as 2013 he was seen leaning against a supercar wearing a grey pair oflooking loafers. Maybe they were the same pair and looked a lighter colour because they were clean and new.

But it could also be that it was the year the outspoken broadcaster was experimenting to find his favourite comfy shoes. For in 2013 he also tweeted a picture of his feet clad in trendy trainers with a sweary comment which urged fans to look at his 'f***ing new red shoes'.

Although he is occasionally pictured wearing walking boots, formal lace ups and wellies while filming the Clarkson's Farm or the Grand Tour, the tattered slip on loafer seems to be his shoe of choice when off duty . And looking at the black pair he wore to the TV shoes he might well have a favourite he wears every day.

But his claims of inheriting his Yorkshire family’s parsimonious nature might seem a little far fetched for those who follow him. Writing in the Sunday Times he wrote: "I do not enjoy spending money, which is why I have one pair of shoes that I have worn every day for the last six years. My car is 17 years old. And my laptop may as well be made by Remington.
