Vikings: How did Ragnar become king of Kattegat?
How Vikings Became King of Kattegat Revealed
Vikings saw the great Ragnar Lothbrok go from farmer to legendary warrior, and at one point, he was also the King of Kattegat. To reach this rank, however, he had to go through some battles and kill some enemies. Historical dramas have gained a lot of attention in recent years. One of the most recent and successful TV series in this industry is Vikings, created by Michael Hirst. Over its seasons, the show covered the early years of the Viking Age and saw its main characters go through a series of betrayals and battles.
But they were also very successful, although often achieved through violent means. The series initially followed legendary Norse figure Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) and his travels and raids alongside his companions. This from the beginning of the Age of these warriors (marked by the Lindisfarne attack, shown in Season 1) onwards. As the series progressed, Vikings, however, shifted its focus to Ragnar's sons - Björn, Ubbe, Hvitserk, Sigurd and Ivar - and his own travels. With them he assumed leadership of the series after Ragnar's death in Season 4. Still, Ragnar's legacy continued to be felt until the series finale.
Ragnar became king in Vikings
Many of his accomplishments continued to be talked about on the show and among viewers. When the viewer first met Ragnar in Season 1 of Vikings, he was a farmer. In turn, he lived in Kattegat with his wife, Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) and their children Gyda and Björn.However, he was also a fearless warrior who dreamed of sailing across the ocean to invade the west. Ragnar was sure that there were great riches on the other side of the world. These plans collided with those of Haraldson (Gabriel Byrne), Earl of Kattegat at the time. And that was the beginning of Ragnar's path to the throne of Kattegat. In Season 1 of Vikings, Haraldson saw Ragnar as a threat due to his plans to invade unknown lands and more. So he launched an attack on Ragnar's farm. Although Ragnar fought to defend his home and family, he was badly wounded, so he and his family fled and hid in Floki's (Gustaf Skarsgård) home.
There he learned that Haraldson had captured his brother, Rollo (Clive Standen), and was torturing him for information. Before that, Ragnar decides to challenge Haraldson to a duel. After a short fight, Ragnar kills Haraldson and becomes King of Kattegat. However, the transition required even more battles and deaths.
Floki protected Ragnar
After initially being allies, Ragnar's relationship with King Horik changed. This one began to plan to kill Ragnar and his entire family. Horik tried to recruit Floki into Vikings to kill Ragnar. But first he had to prove his worth by killing Torstein (Jefferson Hall). However, Floki was much smarter (and more loyal) than Horik.Floki told Ragnar of the king's plans. Siggy (Jessalyn Gilsig) did the same thing when the king asked her to kill his children. When Horik launched his attack on Kattegat and his plan to kill Ragnar and company, he learned that Floki had betrayed his plan and was on Ragnar's side.

In this way, Horik, his men and his family (except his son) were killed in Vikings. This led to Ragnar assuming the title of King of Kattegat. As ruler of the city, Ragnar cared deeply for his people. He was ambitious (which was not just for his and his family's benefit, but his people's benefit as well) and didn't hesitate to fight any battles that needed to be fought. Thus, unlike other kings in Vikings who stayed as far away from the battlefield as possible.
